The Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), in collaboration with AIRTUM, AIOM Foundation and other scientific institutions, has published the long-awaited 14th edition of the report "The Numbers of Cancer in Italy 2024." It is a fundamental tool for understanding the state of oncology in our country, useful for physicians, patients, institutions and citizens.

- 390,100 new cancer diagnoses in 2024 (214,500 men and 175,600 women), a stable figure compared to previous years.
- The 5 most common cancers: breast, colorectal, lung, prostate and bladder.

- Decline in cancer mortality in young adults (20-49 years old): -21.4% in women, -28% in men over the past 15 years.

- Risk factors still widespread: smoking (24% of the population), overweight (33%), obesity (10%), risky alcohol (18%) and increasing sedentary lifestyle.

In 2024, according to AIOM data, bladder cancer is among the most frequent cancers, with an estimated 31,016 new cases. Specifically, among men it is the fourth most diagnosed cancer (25,230 cases) and is among the leading causes of cancer prevalence in Italy, with more than 300,000 people living after a diagnosis of this disease.

Urothelial tumors (kidneys, ureters, bladder) often have no obvious symptoms in the early stages.
