Patients at high risk for urinary tract cancer
These carcinogens are filtered by the kidneys and excreted through the urinary tract, remaining in contact with the bladder and promoting tumor development. Therefore, smokers and so-called "exposed individuals" should undergourinary cytology examination. In these individuals, urinary cytology can be used as part of a surveillance protocol, especially if they have suspicious symptoms or abnormalities in urinalysis.
